CLIS Distance Education Admission 2026

The CLIS Distance Education was launched with the objective of catering to the staffing needs of rural libraries, as well as imparting basic skills and training in library management. Since most rural libraries are managed by untrained persons, the programme provides them an opportunity to take up basic training in the library and information science profession. It is equally suited to Library Support Staff and Paraprofessionals, Career Starters and Entry-Level Job Seekers, Government and Public Sector Employees, Community Volunteers, Library Interns and Aspiring K-12 School Librarians.

CLIS Distance Education Admission for 2026 is conducted online. Candidates visit ignou.samarth.edu.in, click “New Registration”, create an account with their name, email ID, mobile number and password, log in, select the Certificate in Library and Information Science (CLIS), complete the application form, upload documents (below 200 KB in size) and pay the fee. No entrance exam is conducted — admission is based purely on merit in the qualifying examination, and there is no age bar, so candidates from any age group can apply. CLIS Distance Education Admission Eligibility

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 (Senior Secondary) from any recognised board in any stream — Arts, Commerce or Science.
  • A minimum of 45% aggregate marks is required (40% for SC/ST candidates).
  • Alternatively, candidates who have passed the BPP (Bachelor’s Preparatory Programme) from IGNOU are eligible.
  • No entrance examination is conducted — selection is totally based on merit, on the score obtained in the last qualifying examination.
  • No age restriction — candidates from any age group can apply.
  • Work experience is not necessary, though candidates holding an experience letter may submit it during the admission process.
